Quest 150

Posted by: MrRSMan   in RuneScape news discussion

RuneScape updates

Most notably this week was the release of RuneScape’s 150th quest!  I’m not big on quests, but even so, this is a pretty important milestone.  However, we’ll come on to that later because there is one other piece news to discuss first.

Okay, that was a lie, because they’re actually two, but the first one, Lores and Histories, doesn’t count because it’s not a real update.  But for those of you who are interested in it, of whom I am not one, I’ll talk briefly (very briefly) about it.  Basically the lore is the next chapter in the “goblin series”, where Zanik the cave goblin (who has featured in a couple of quests- you may recognise the name) tells a tale which was written down by Reldo, the Varrock Palace librarian.

Well with that over and done with, let’s move on to some proper news…

Target update

Posted by: MrRSMan   in Personal blog

As you may or may not know, I always have something that I’m particularly aiming for; usually certain levels in skills, but sometimes the odd mini-game or quest target.  These are goals that I set for myself every few months, or whenever I manage to reach the previous ones.

If you look to the right, you’ll see my current goals- two of them: 90 crafting and 95 fletching.  I started these about a month ago, so since I haven’t mentioned them since then on this blog, I thought it was time we had a progress report!

Tweeeaaaks!

Posted by: MrRSMan   in Site news

Tweaks day! Following in Jagex’s footsteps, I’ve spent the past week tweaking the website.

You may remember that a few weeks ago I announced that RuneVoyage was no longer producing game guides, but instead concentrating on blog releases and featured articles.  So I’ve re-shuffled the bar on the right, and removed links to the guides (there were only a handful, so there’s no point in keeping them there).  I’ve also increased the amount of blog and article posts displayed here, and moved these sections up a bit to make them more noticeable.

Also in this area, I’ve added sections for my goals which I work towards.  Some of you may remember back to January where I set myself ten goals for 2009 to be completed this year (hopefully).  Not only this, but I’ve also added my short-term goals, which I set for myself every few months.  The current ones were decided upon about a month ago.  For both of these sections, I’m going to keep them regularly updated, so every time I come to write, I’ll check for any changes and update the site accordingly.

Finally, I’ve changed the way that these posts are actually displayed on the main page.  Previously, you’d see the two most recent posts, but not including featured articles.  Now, you see the five most recent posts or articles with a link to read the whole thing.  This should hopefully make the site easier to use.

Just before I go, I’d like to remind you about MechTutor, which has recently had a big re-design.  Head on over there now to have a look and to find out about upcoming features!

A mighty c*ck-up

Posted by: MrRSMan   in Site news

This is going to sound very odd, I know.

Whilst re-vamping the website (see previous post), you’ll see the “Current Goals” section, and you’ll see a list of what I’m working towards at the moment. If you haven’t a clue where these goals have come from, I don’t blame you, because I haven’t actually told you about them yet. And this is where it gets interesting…

Finally, a mini-game worth playing! or not…

Posted by: MrRSMan   in RuneScape news discussion

The most note-worthy update this month has not been an update, but a welcome message from Jagex’s new CEO, Mark Gerhard, who now takes over from Geoff Iddison.

The post entitled “The Future of RuneScape” seems to strike a chord with the RuneScape community.  In the article, Gerhard sets down what he plans to do with RuneScape over the coming years, and sets right “mistake” of previous years.  Notably, Gerhard aims to make Jagex much more open to listening to our opinions.  He then goes on to talk about the free game, and how it’s been neglected for many years.  After this, he talks in depth about how RuneScape is seen as a “game for kids” and how be plans to change this.

Yesterday’s featured article, New CEO; New Jagex?, discusses Gerhard’s plans in details and attempts to predict what changes they will actually have on RuneScape.  If you haven’t already read it, head on over now.

New CEO; New Jagex?

Posted by: MrRSMan   in Featured articles

On 30th January 2009, there was a major change in the key figure at Jagex- the CEO.  Geoff Iddison has now left, and is replaced by Mark Gerhard, who is planning some pretty radical changes for RuneScape.

When you leave it too long

Posted by: MrRSMan   in RuneScape news discussion

Yes, this is late, I know.  Last week was manic for me and I had very little time to blog, or anything other than school work actually.  So today you’ve got a bit of a bumper update, covering the last few weeks of RuneScape news.

Back in January, Jagex delivered what they’d said they would earlier in December.  The logout timer has now been increased from the previous 90 seconds to five minutes.  This will be extremely helpful to those of us who do other stuff whilst RuneScape, such as browsing forums, reading up on various game guides, writing a blog or doing work!

Secondly were the long-awaited tweaks to the in-game chat filter.  Words have now been removed from the filter list, so those sentences that were previously incomprehendable, now have some meaning.  Very useful, I think you’ll agree.  No doubt a couple of words have been added in this process as well- I for one know of a handful of words that should really be blocked.  Jagex have said that this is an on-going task, so we’ll probably be hearing of more work in this area during the next few months.

Thirdly how many times a week do you visit the Grand Exchange?  1,2,3,4?  In a busy week I can easily make that journey many times- often 20 or more.  And every time I teleport to Varrock and make that all-too-familiar walk north to the Exchange.  At last a remedy!  Members who’ve completed the easy tasks of the Varrock Achievement Diary can now have their teleport changed from the city centre to the Exchange.  Now we won’t have to waste time making a pointless walk to perhaps the most used area in RuneScape.  I guess this gives be a valid reason to do that Achievement Diary then!

Presenting MechTutor!

Posted by: MrRSMan   in Site news

I’ve been working on a new website for the past couple of months now.  No, not for RuneScape, but for MechScape.  If you read last week’s blog then you’ll know this already, but if you didn’t, then I guess this is new.  The name of the website is MechTutor, and it can be found at MechTutor.com.

Those of you who still aren’t really aware of what MechScape actually is, I suggest you read this article which will tell you all about it.

Exams are over!

Posted by: MrRSMan   in Personal blog

Exams are over!  W00t!  My last exam finished today at about 2:30 this afternoon- physics.  Now I’m back into normal school days, normal evenings which are no longer crammed with revision and a normal mind which is no longer worrying its socks off about how the exams are going to go.

And normal RuneScape too!  As you know, over the past few weeks all I’ve been doing in-game is making cannonballs, which has suited me well since it requires very little concentration and can be done easily alongside revision.

But enough of that now!  I’ve finally managed to save up for those 2.5k dragon bones and I’ve already used them.  I must admit that it took me a lot less time than I was planning to take here.  I’m am now the proud owner of level 70 Prayer, which now covers me for all the prayers available, once I’ve completed King’s Ranson quest (needed for those last two- Piety and Chivalry).  This training also earned me three combat levels, to I am now level 109.
